 On the political front, Europe is facing an ideological earthquake. The far-right, anti-immigration party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has achieved a historic victory by emerging as the largest single party in the state election of Saxony-Anhalt.

The AfD campaigned heavily on restricting migration and lifting economic sanctions against Russia.
