NEW DELHI: On the opening day of the 18th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a grand gala dinner at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. The high-profile evening brought together global leaders, Union Cabinet ministers, and Chief Ministers from various states in a unique display of diplomatic camaraderie.

In a notable moment, top Indian leaders—including Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Kiren Rijiju—along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several Chief Ministers like Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh) and Rekha Gupta (Delhi)—travelled together in special buses from the Parliament House complex to the dinner venue under tight security.

Pure Indian Hospitality for Global Leaders

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, shared glimpses of the gathering on social media platform X. “India is proud to host the #BRICS Summit. Along with Union Ministers & Chief Ministers, joined the banquet hosted by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for India’s most honored guests with pure Indian hospitality,” Rijiju wrote.

The grand banquet hosted top international dignitaries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, among other world leaders attending the mega-summit. To foster seamless interactions, separate tables were curated allowing Indian ministers and foreign delegates to engage closely over a lavish, curated all-vegetarian spread featuring millets, traditional delicacies, and iconic sweets.

A Historic Milestone: ‘New Delhi Declaration 2026’

The gala dinner followed a major diplomatic breakthrough earlier in the day, where BRICS leaders unanimously adopted the ‘New Delhi Declaration 2026’. The historic declaration strongly advocates for the reform of global governance structures and calls for a more robust representation of developing nations on the world stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the consensus, stating that the historic outcome reflects a BRICS that is “broader in its scope and stronger in its purpose.” He emphasized that the declaration focuses on key pillars of innovation, sustainability, and enhanced people-to-people cooperation, paving the way for a more practical and growth-oriented partnership among member nations.
