Taiwan Detects 3 PLA Aircraft, 5 Chinese Navy Ships Around Island

 Taipei – Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) said it detected three sorties of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, five People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels and four Chinese official ships operating around Taiwan on Monday.

According to the ministry’s daily update, the activity was recorded up to 6 a.m. local time (UTC+8). One of the three PLA aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). 

Taiwan’s defence ministry said its armed forces monitored the Chinese military activity and responded accordingly. The ministry regularly publishes daily reports on Chinese aircraft and naval vessels operating around the island.

The latest activity follows a similar pattern reported over the previous days. On Sunday, Taiwan said it had detected two PLA aircraft sorties, five PLAN vessels and six official Chinese ships around the island.

 The median line of the Taiwan Strait has historically served as an unofficial dividing line between the two sides, although Beijing does not recognise it as a formal boundary. Taiwan closely monitors Chinese military aircraft that cross the line or enter areas of its ADIZ.

An ADIZ is not the same as a country’s sovereign airspace. It is an area in which aircraft are asked to identify themselves for air-safety and monitoring purposes.

Taiwan has reported frequent Chinese military activity around the island in recent years. The activity includes PLA aircraft, PLAN vessels and Chinese coast guard or other official ships.

The situation remains part of the broader military and political tensions between Beijing and Taipei. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory, while Taiwan has its own government, military and democratic institutions.

Taiwan’s latest report does not indicate that the Chinese aircraft or ships launched an attack. The figures represent military and official vessels and aircraft detected operating around the island during the specified reporting period.
