NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of India, with particularly strong warnings for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The latest forecast indicates that Uttarakhand could experience extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas, while parts of Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain.
Delhi-NCR is also expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, although the weather warning there is less severe than in some neighbouring areas.
The weather activity is linked to a combination of weather systems affecting northern and central India. Delhi experienced rain and thunderstorms even after the southwest monsoon had officially withdrawn from the capital.

The IMD has also forecast rainfall activity in parts of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, the northeastern states and other regions.
In mountainous areas such as Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall can increase the risk of landslides, road blockages and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
Authorities in affected areas have been advised to maintain vigilance, particularly where heavy rainfall could cause flooding or landslides.
The forecast is for weather conditions and does not mean that every location within the listed states will receive the same intensity of rainfall.
Residents are advised to follow local administration and IMD warnings, especially in areas under heavy-rain alerts.
