Russia-Ukraine War: Russian Strikes Kill Eight in Ukraine, Maternity Clinic Damaged

 KYIV, September 25, 2026 — Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine killed eight people on Thursday, according to Ukrainian officials, with attacks reported in Kyiv and northeastern parts of the country. A maternity hospital was among the civilian facilities damaged in the strikes.

The attacks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. Ukrainian officials said the strikes hit civilian and infrastructure targets, while Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces targeted facilities connected to Ukraine’s military. Russia’s claims could not be independently verified.

Earlier on Thursday, Ukrainian officials reported that a Russian attack on Kyiv involved ballistic missiles and 282 drones, along with other weapons. The initial reports said two people were killed and several others injured; subsequent reporting put the overall death toll from the day’s attacks at eight.

The strikes also damaged residential areas and other civilian infrastructure. The continuing exchange of long-range attacks comes amid international efforts to find a diplomatic path toward ending the war.
