Cardinals Reportedly Preparing Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade as Star Receiver Is Ruled Out Against Lions
The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly finalising a trade involving wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., with the former first-round draft pick set to miss the team’s game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Reports from NFL Network and ESPN said Harrison had been informed of the expected move and would be inactive as the Cardinals worked to complete the deal. As of the latest reports, the team acquiring him and the compensation Arizona would receive had not been publicly confirmed.
The development puts the future of one of Arizona’s most highly anticipated young players in the spotlight. Harrison was selected fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft after a standout college career at Ohio State.
Cardinals Move Toward a Major Roster Change
Harrison’s reported departure would mark a significant change for the Cardinals, who selected him to become a key part of their passing attack. The 24-year-old receiver entered the NFL with high expectations because of his size, route-running ability and production in college.
However, his involvement in Arizona’s offence has been limited during the opening four games of the 2026 season. He recorded five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown, according to reports published ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
The Cardinals have also seen fellow wide receiver Michael Wilson emerge as an important option, while tight end Trey McBride remains a major target in the passing game.
The team’s reported decision to trade Harrison suggests that Arizona may be considering a different direction for its receiving group. The exact terms of any agreement remain unclear until the trade is officially announced.
Houston Texans Reportedly Among Potential Suitors
The Houston Texans have been mentioned in reports as a team that held trade discussions regarding Harrison. Houston could be an option because of its need for receiving help, although no completed deal or destination had been confirmed in the latest available reporting.
The Indianapolis Colts were also discussed as a possible landing spot in trade speculation. However, reports indicated that Indianapolis was not involved in the negotiations.
Until the Cardinals or the NFL confirms the transaction, the identity of Harrison’s next team and the details of the proposed trade should be treated as unconfirmed.
A Difficult Start to the 2026 Season
Harrison arrived in the NFL after an impressive career at Ohio State and was selected fourth overall by Arizona in 2024. His rookie season included 62 receptions for 885 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 games, establishing him as a promising young receiver.
His production declined in the following season, and his numbers through four games in 2026 have been modest. The reported trade could give him an opportunity to work in a different offensive system, depending on where he lands.
For Arizona, the move could bring draft compensation or other roster benefits, but the value of any deal has not been officially disclosed.
What Happens Next?
The immediate focus is on the completion and announcement of the reported trade. Harrison’s inactive status for the Lions game is linked in reports to the ongoing negotiations rather than a confirmed new-team announcement.
The Cardinals’ decision could have implications for both teams involved, particularly if Harrison joins a franchise looking for an additional receiving threat. For now, the destination, trade terms and timing of an official announcement remain the key unanswered questions.
