Trump to Wrap Up Xi Summit With Tour of US National Archives

U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping view historic American documents during Xi’s visit to the U.S. National Archives in Washington.

Washington, September 25, 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump is set to conclude Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three-day state visit to Washington with a tour of the U.S. National Archives on Friday.

Trump is expected to accompany Xi to the archives, where they will view some of the United States’ most important historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Trump has also highlighted historical artifacts reflecting the long relationship and cultural exchanges between the United States and China.

The archives visit follows Thursday’s White House summit between Trump and Xi. The discussions covered major issues including trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and broader U.S.-China relations. Both sides also pointed to AI as an area where cooperation could be possible.

Taiwan remains a major issue

Taiwan was among the sensitive subjects discussed during the summit. Xi urged Washington to handle the Taiwan issue with caution, while China continues to oppose Taiwan independence and seeks changes in U.S. policy toward the island.

The summit also came after U.S. and Chinese officials agreed to extend an arrangement that pauses their trade conflict, with the extension reported to run until January 10.

Xi’s visit is his first state visit to Washington in more than a decade. The National Archives tour is scheduled as the final major public event before he leaves the United States.
