Washington Puts $20 Million Bounty on Iran Nuclear Intelligence, Offers Possible Relocation

The United States has announced a reward of up to $20 million, along with possible relocation, for individuals who can provide information about Iran’s nuclear programme. The offer, announced through the US Department of State’s Rewards for Justice initiative, seeks intelligence about nuclear facilities, equipment, personnel and movements linked to Tehran’s nuclear activities.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) publicised the offer on Friday, November 6, through its official social media account. The announcement said the programme was seeking information about Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and people associated with it, including members of the scientific community.

The offer is part of Washington’s broader effort to gather intelligence about Iran’s nuclear capabilities as tensions between the two countries continue and diplomatic efforts seek to prevent another escalation.

What information is the United States seeking?

According to the official Rewards for Justice notice, the United States is interested in information about the location and activities of Iranian nuclear facilities, equipment used in the programme and individuals connected to it.

The request also specifically covers the movement of facilities, equipment or associated personnel. This means information about changes in the location of nuclear-related infrastructure or the movement of people involved in the programme could also be relevant.

The notice refers to personnel from the scientific community, indicating that the intelligence effort is not limited to military or government officials. Researchers, technical specialists and other people with knowledge of Iran’s nuclear activities may also possess information sought by Washington.

The US government has not published a detailed breakdown of the criteria for receiving the maximum $20 million payment. It has also not explained how individual tips will be assessed or how reward amounts will be determined.

The programme says people can submit information through its designated reporting channels. Its official website provides options for sending information and supporting material, including photographs, videos and documents.

Why has Washington announced the reward?

The announcement comes amid continuing international concern over Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and the level of monitoring available to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In its explanation of the reward, the US State Department referred to the IAEA’s 2025 reporting that Iran was enriching uranium to 60 per cent purity. This is significantly above the enrichment level generally required for civilian nuclear power generation and relatively close to the approximately 90 per cent level commonly associated with weapons-grade uranium.

The US government argues that this enrichment level and gaps in monitoring make additional information about Iran’s nuclear activities important for international security.

The department also said that Iran’s failure to meet its safeguards obligations had affected the IAEA’s continuity of knowledge regarding the country’s production and stockpiles of important nuclear-related components, including centrifuges.

Centrifuges are machines used to increase the concentration of uranium-235 in uranium. They are essential to uranium enrichment, which can be used for civilian nuclear energy as well as, at higher enrichment levels, nuclear weapons production.

However, uranium enrichment alone does not establish that a country has decided to build a nuclear weapon. Iran has repeatedly maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful, while the United States and other countries have raised concerns about the potential military applications of its activities.

What is Rewards for Justice?

Rewards for Justice is a US Department of State programme established in 1984. It offers financial rewards for information that helps protect American lives and advance US national security objectives.

The initiative has previously been used to seek information connected with terrorism, international security threats and individuals or organisations considered significant risks by Washington.

The programme is administered through the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Its reward offers can include financial payments and, where applicable, assistance with relocation.

The Iran nuclear programme offer is notable because of its maximum value of $20 million and its focus on facilities, technical equipment and scientific personnel. The relocation provision may also be significant for people who believe providing information could put their safety at risk.

The US government has not publicly detailed the specific relocation arrangements available under this particular offer.

Announcement comes amid tensions and diplomatic efforts

The reward announcement comes at a sensitive moment in relations between Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that American military operations have severely damaged Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

On Friday, Trump again defended the US military campaign, saying the strikes had prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He also said Washington was in contact with Tehran and claimed that Iranian leaders wanted an agreement to end the conflict.

At the same time, the possibility of renewed military action remains a concern. Trump has referred to additional locations that Washington believes could be relevant to Iran’s nuclear programme, while Tehran has disputed American claims about certain suspected nuclear sites.

Diplomatic efforts involving regional mediators, including Qatar, have continued in an attempt to prevent further escalation and find a way forward on the nuclear issue.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also indicated that his government remains interested in resolving the crisis through dialogue.

The competing messages from Washington—offering a major intelligence reward while also discussing negotiations—illustrate the two approaches being pursued by the United States: gathering information about Iran’s nuclear activities and seeking a possible diplomatic settlement.

No confirmation of an immediate nuclear weapons threat

The reward announcement should not be interpreted as proof that Iran is currently building a nuclear weapon. The US notice focuses on obtaining information about facilities, equipment and personnel, while its concerns are based on uranium enrichment levels and gaps in international monitoring.

The IAEA’s ability to monitor nuclear materials and verify compliance with safeguards remains central to the wider dispute. Independent verification is important because claims made by governments about nuclear activities can differ, and intelligence information is not automatically equivalent to publicly established evidence.

For now, the $20 million offer adds another dimension to the international effort to understand Iran’s nuclear programme. Whether it produces significant new intelligence remains uncertain, but Washington has made clear that it is seeking information from people with direct knowledge of the programme, including those familiar with its technical infrastructure and personnel.
